You could likely succeed at that approach by having some one close the brake bleed nipple before you let the pedal up. This becomes a two person ballet: One opens the nipple then the other presses the pedal. With the pedal still down the nipple is closed and then the pedal is allowed to rise then the process is repeated until the system is fully bled.
