I very much doubt the Chinese-made ones are as good. Certainly none of the knock-offs are. Fortunately real Vise Grips almost never break, mine were purchased 25-30 years ago and are still going strong.
Chinese-made tools are usually pretty bad. Last weekend I was helping a friend do some work on an old rusty Jeep and had to remove a T40 torx bolt to change out a brake hose. His Chinese-made torx bit twisted up like a pretzel as soon as you put serious torque on it. We went out and picked up a US-made Lisle set at Sears and the reluctant bolt came right out.
