Help the piston to retract

I always help the psiton retract as the screw is reversed until resistance os felt. I think if you force the screw, expecting the piston to retract, it might damage something internally. I think I did that on one and could not get the screw to make the piston extend using the screw and now I have no e-brake action on that side. ANyone know what may have happened inside and how to fix it?
