There must be several failure modes of these radiators or maybe there are differences depending on your fan setpoints (I use 82 degree tstat and fan switch) - both of mine failed the opposite way (driving faster cooled them), but if Bill has experienced the bad radiators only overheating at highway speeds, that's where you should look first. Certainly the gauge behaviour sounds right for it (creeping up near the red). A good time to check over all the other hoses for deterioration (eg upper rad hose). Good idea to switch to Mercedes coolant also (and 82 degree tstat and fan switch if that's not what's there)...
