hope you meant 1988T and 1980 was a typo? if so...

have you gotten the pump out of the tank? there is a hose clamp around the outside of it, you need to loosen that and you can take it off before removing the pump too. disconnect the electrical connections, and remove the banjeo fitting with the two washers and the nut. push the fuel line back under the metal out of the way, and pull the pump up and out, NOTE the orientation of the top of the pump as you pull it out to help the next step, picture BEFORE you pull it is king. you will have to reach into the tank to pull the return line off the hard plastic line, it usually has a fuel line pushed onto it, sometimes with one of those metal clamps.

at this point be sure you note the orientation of the prepump pickup. if 12 o'clock is towards the front of the car, you may find it at 6 o'clock OR to one side or the other. this is important to replicate upon reinstallation to prevent fuel starvation..

the prepump is screwed on the side of the canister and two wires go in parallel to the main pump. both pumps run all the time.

do NOT overtighten the little nut on the prepump, I've done that and broken the dang thing.

the main pump is held in with that clamp and sometimes is a bugger to get out. the orientation of the pump AND the depth of the pump are important to get clocked for wires and fuel line as well as to get all the fuel out.

use a small screwdriver down the side of the pump to free it from the rubber.

put it all back together and you should be good to go. you can check the pump with power just for a sec.... it uses the fuel to cool itself so don't over do it.
