thanks Siegfried
I tried swapping the control unit with the one from my 92 conv.,but no change. Then I remembered that a few years ago the system would quit when I made a three point turn. I found that if I pulled the front sensors and wiped them clean it would work again for a while. I can't figure where the contamination on the RF is coming from ( the ring is clean) but I added a simple wave washer to the mounting bolt between the sensor and the hub carrier to increase the clearance a few thou and it stayed clean much longer. When I put the studded tyres on I cleaned the sensors again but did not put the washer back and after a few days it started this new trick. I just put the washer back in and the problem is gone!?
Never a dull moment in the wild, wacky wonderful world of auto wepair!
