I understand your solution and kinda slightly get how it goes there and why - probably - it gives you what it gives although it is the clearance decrease (i.e. not increase which you did with the washer) which helps the sensor to pickup back again the ring teeth. But I'd - and strongly recommend to - still keep on digging further and deeper until I find and fix the root because it isn't designed to behave this way and to be fixed this way. Either your sensor(s) (1) or your ring(s) (2) or your ABS ECU (3) is bad. And ATE ABS MkII is a really nice and helpful system EVEN for those who know how to enter and exit corners and when to brake and when not to brake.

the pick-up sensor could be bent (e.g. by a first-timer on CV r'n'r) or fried (e.g. on a hilly tour without engine braking technique). I'd bet my two cents - sorry, depression world-wide and esp. here in Mordor - on the bent sensor or the hub which makes the sensor touch the ring

the ring may has changed its magnetic properties; or the ring is damaged and kicks the sensor while rotating - this is my 2nd bet. The 3rd bet goes to some special grease put into CVs (like some... copper grease?) and bad clamps on CV boot which all lets the grease out and stick to the sensor and the ring and electromagnetically short the sensor-ring circuit

although post-70's ECUs do not fail and it is the owners and mechanics who fry them with heat and electric current when welding or messing around with wires under the hood and jeer with salt and water and budlight and mechanical stress - there happens that budlight and salt and heat. And sometimes they fail on their own, but you must be really lucky to catch that since chances are of order of 1:50 000
