I had one in my '80 - it froze and the rod broke (in 2011 after 31 years operational). Never used a scantech - too many horror stories. Always bought good OEM used ones. If you have a metal one that isn't frozen, use it! Great quality apart from the brittle plastic rod and it's the same size, so no difference in installation.
