Aftermarket valves Posted by RS [Email] (#15) [Profile/Gallery] (more from RS) on Wed, 4 Dec 2013 14:18:06 In Reply to: Don't go to metal..., Larry West [Profile/Gallery] , Tue, 3 Dec 2013 09:41:26 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Had to go with an aftermarket heater valve after my 20-some-odd year old OEM suffered a catastrophic failure (one of the nipples cracked and whizzed coolant into the engine and passenger compartments.)
So far the operation is smooth (it's only been in a few days). It's a little smoother than the last new OEM valve I had - probably because the O-ring is a little less robust. We'll see what happens in a year or two.
The positioning on the aftermarket valve is really sloppy, though - there's 10 or 15 degrees of backlash. Not that this is a precise operation but it would be nice for it to be as precise as the original was. I should have taken the plastic gear and rack from the old one and put it in the aftermarket valve.
