Hello Everyone,

I live in Budapest Hungary and have been on the search for a good Saab 900 T16S (SPG to those of you living in the US) for quite some time now.

From reading the various Saab forums, I find it interesting that a lot of people feel that anything above USD 4,000 (which is less than EUR 3000) for a 900 T16 S (SPG) is too expensive - even in good shape.

Here in Europe, the prices for these cars really seem to have increased in the last year or two. Honestly, it is hard to find a running 900 T16S in any shape for less than EUR 4000 (which is about USD 5,500).

Prices also seem lower in the UK due to a more limited market for LHD examples.

I am currently looking at a 900 T16S flat nose from 1985 (in my favorite color combo of silver with red leather interior) and the best price I can get from the Seller is EUR 4500. The car has certain body issues (the paint is a little patchy in places even though there is generally no real rust issues) and the interior is at best in fair condition (the red dash - rarer than hen's teeth - is cracked, the front seats have been reupholstered (but good quality) and the leather on the back seat has shrunk with heat). The car has 200,0000 KMS.

I am looking for a solid project - something which I can drive in the next two years, and then maybe subject to a suspension rebuild (and maybe engine components needing work) in a couple of years time, and perhaps a respray. I know that if I wanted to get this car into a condition which I would deem to be very good, I probably would be spending about USD 10,000 on it (even in Hungary where labor costs are lower).

What are these cars worth nowadays? Is this what you would consider a good price? I just purchased a 99 Turbo, so would rather wait a year or so till I purchased an SPG, but this seems to be (in European terms) a very good deal. Would be grateful for your thoughts. It seems to me that the 900 SPG is finally becoming an appreciating classic.

Many thanks in advance!

Ed
