needed to do the back one with the engine in the car, you could pop the tie rod ends, undo the steering column and unbolt the rack to slide it out of the way and reach those bolts. I've always found the worst part of the rack job is getting the hoses off the rack and dropping the damn thing - something you probably don't absolutely have to do to,
But man, I'd sure hate to have the upper arm move even a fraction of an inch while doing it. It would be a major pain to reposition it without a lift.
