Something less elegant (but not as much fun. Cut away the plastic boot to reveal the very shiny, very hard, and very slick shaft of the piston rod. Take some emery cloth or coarse sand paper a rough up an inch or so if it.
Get some vise grips and clamp them on there as tight as you possibly can (so that you have to use both hands to get them to snap closed, grunting helps). Hopefully you will have hit the nut on top with liquid wrench, PB Blastter, or WD-40 (it helps). Hold on to the visegrips with one hand, turn the nut on top with the other, and say a little prayer if you are the religious type (Other wise curse at it!).
If it let's loose, great. If not, go rent the grinder.
