Here's an earlier discussion about rebuilding distributors: http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/900/index.html?bID=432803
It's mostly about seals BUT, it references two other websites. The second of the two websites has a few paragraphs about about the Hall effect sensor. The site is specifically about NG900 distributors, but all of the principles are the same.
Bottom line is that, to use this new sensor, you'll have to drill out the rivets and pop-rivet the new sensor so the gap is in exactly the same spot in relation to the plate as the corresponding gap of the old sensor was, so it doesn't chew up the shutter ring.
