To me that sounds like a clutch hydraulic issue, most likely the master but may be the slave. If it was a "mechanical" issue, e.g.; sticking clutch disc splines, oil contaminated disc, seized pilot bearing, etc., you wouldn't expect the difference you describe from cold to warm engine (you might get the opposite symptom though) and you wouldn't expect a difference between disengagement and engagement.
