Thanks for the comments/replies (even you Zig). Rather than 4 replies, here they go in order:
OEM seatbelt attachment points understood. SAAB anchors their belt in the structure of the rear alongside the back seat (the belt) to the inside center of the seat (same as BMW). I still have the OE belts inplace. I haven't tested them yet, but the SAAB belt plate might just fit in the BMW latch assembly. This has to be tested. I'm not worried about seats pulling out of my anchor plates, which are 1/4" thick CRS (6mm). I purposely built H frames so the plates won't bend (if I had used say just a pair of plates) and a collision caused the plates to bend/peel. Most aftermarket seat adapter frames a an H frame type design for this reason. Back seat foot room is reduced....but I don't care as it's empty 95% of the time we drive this car.
I believe this seat was used by BMW in the E46 convertible (hardtops have a different seat with no belt anchored in the back) from ~98-04. Did I mention how comfortable they are?
Height....yes Justin, you notice that you sit higher. Frame to frame, I've raised the BMW seat 0.25inch. However I think the poor quality/23 year old cushions of my going to the trash today OEM seats are lowered from age. I've adjusted the M3 seats down, tipped back a bit, and it seems fine to me. I'm 6'0" tall, and the spouse around 5'8". I'll give more impressions on this later. The lower back support / lateral support of these just blows away the OEM poor excuse seats.
Thanks Vern, I'm pretty happy, and I'm NOT going back.
Folks who installed the later AERO seats, without ability to tip forward for rear passengers......WAY too much trouble, just so it stays "SAAB". In my opinion, use best of the best available (I scored these seats via eBay for $300, free pickup since I was local); the SAAB purists can go ahead and hate......
