Well I'm still messing about with motorcars, trying to replace trashed clutch slave cylinder on my '88 c900, non-turbo (an another trashed slave cylinder waiting for replacement on my '91 c900 NA, as soon as get the '88 done and can move it out of my 1-space heated garage!).
A couple weeks ago, I received this advice from good ole CMyles, for when leaky slave cylinder actuation may not suffice to get a tool/spacer in between the fingers of the clutch cover

OK, it worked and I now have considerable room to insert a spacer tool. But I can't quite get anything I've tried (copper tubing, plastic tubing, insulated wire) to sit in the available space securely.
But I see that that I've backed the pressure plate sufficiently away from the flywheel, that by removing one of the three bolts/w nuts, and replacing it in the next available hole CW, I think I can easily remove the clutch disk itself from the assembly, by extracting it out from the top. If I did that, would it still be necessary to insert a spacer tool of some kind to remove the pressure plate?
