I almost put that one on my list below. People I know who drive them like them. You could probably put the A3 in your comparison also, but be aware that the VW/Audi cars are pretty maintenance hungry. Last I checked, they were pretty low on the reliability surveys, whereas SAAB was middle of the pack just a notch or 2 below Hondayota - Porsche was numero uno for reliability! As modern cars go, the GTI seems relatively driver-oriented.
Are you looking for manual or stick? That may be a consideration here... Some choices listed are great with a stick but meh with an auto... some may not be available with stick.
