I found the tag, used the link to decipher.
Was a little confused at first as it looks like I should NOT have a drain plug, but I do. Then I saw the note that some early NA cars still had the drain plugs in 89-90.
I have GM55704.
So according to Cmyles, the known master of these things, it should be a good one!
Definitely trying to take good care of it. The reverse issue was there when I got it and I had the Indy do the Townsend style fix which has pretty much resolved it. If it does not go into reverse the first time, I slightly tap 4th and then go back into reverse easily. Never grind. One time I saw the local Saab dealer tech assistant grind it till it stalled. I nearly died. It was like watching your kid get stabbed. Ever since then, I make sure to note the heck out of it when someone else will be driving it, which I try to keep to an absolute minimum.
When, not if, I hear the dreaded whine I will be sure to take immediate action.
Cmyles where are you located? Do you still work on these? I think you're in Colorado? If so, that is unfortunate since I am so far from you. Do you know any good re-builders in the Northeast?
Also, if my clutch issue ends up being the pilot bearing, is there a specific brand I should go with? I think I should also do the rear main seal also at the same time. Anything else I should do if the pilot bearing ends up being the issue and we're in there.
