1993 900T CE, original compressor never converted over. Blowing warm a few weeks back. Took it to my indy for a recharge as I have some left over R12. Indy decides they need to evacuate system. Not sure why. Do that but then their old R12 machine trips the building breaker after only five or so minutes of a vacuum.
Proceed to try to recharge but then say compressor not turning on. Jumper it and it immediate kicks on. Tell me my compressor is now done and that "it will not take a charge".
Search high and low and finally find exact NOS Saab unit from a source in Germany. A week and a half later it is delivered.
Still bothers me that compressor was working then stopped. No luck finding anyone else with an R12 machine and pump.
So, ended up having the R134 conversion done to the old compressor just to see if compressor would work. Had an old conversion kit laying around with the dryer in it. Also placed dye in system.
Compressor immediately works and A/C blows nice and cold. Person who did it did not change the compressor oil out as we both figured the compressor was shot.
Now, of course, there is green dye coming out of the compressor but not at the lines. Dryer dry as well as all other lines. Freaking mess.
A/C still blowing cold for the moment. Here is the question. Since compressor working, do I evacuate the R134 and vacuum down lines then go back to R12 with another receiver dryer and search for someone that can charge the R12? Is that even possible or are internal seals screwed? Figure in my non-A/C how to brain that the r134 is leaking as the density is different than r12 and if I switch back it will be okay. Kind of like switching to synthetic oil and having the car start leaking oil.
Do I install the new compressor and do the conversion? I hear you have to drain oil out first?
At a loss as to what to do......
Thanks for the help!!
