Let's see, a bunch of questions. If the compressor is leaking oil, and i'm assuming between the clutch and the body, it's showing that the shaft seal is bad. I sure wouldn't want to chance that the R12 molecule will fix a bad shaft seal. I'd stay with R134. Cheaper and available for DIY. If you're comfortable that the rest of the system is tight. Next I'd be uncomfortable running it very long with R12 oil. I think you're going lose your current charge fairly quickly if you can see an oil mess. Have you verified that the big manifold hose connections are tight? If you can twist the joints between the rubber and metal that joint will soon leak. If that's good I'd have it evacuated, add the new compressor, add some R134 oil and spool up. A note: if the new compressor is NOS it might have R12 oil in it. I'd drain it and add bottle of R134 oil. I've used ester oil in my conversions. I think it was described as mixing better when you have some left over R12 oil.
