Show me *any* evidence that ATF has any detergents effective on engine deposits or any more detergents of any type than quality oil. Any. There is none, but it isn't true.
Moreover, ATF contains ingredients such as sulphur, chlorine, barium, waxes, and foam suppressants *all* of which are definably bad for engines. Maybe in the '70s when engine oil was still pretty primitive and transmission fluid wasn't very complex you could net some positive results, but these days transmission fluid is not a simple concoction and engine oils are specifically designed with detergents that work on their own deposits.
You do what you wanna do, but science disagrees with you. There are products specifically designed for cleaning engine products. Use them, not some other repurposed fluid without quantiable properties.
