Anybody got a pic of a trailer hitch on convertible? Posted by Notnoel [Email] (#23) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Notnoel) on Wed, 29 Jul 2015 08:03:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I need to add a hitch to pull a Uhaul trailer full of furniture down to my daughter's apartment from DC to Virginia Tech (240 miles through the mountains on I-81). I've got two vehicles to choose from: either my 1988 turbo vert (the heaviest and most powerful vehicle and easiest to control via 5-speed, or a Subaru Impreza (2200 pounds, 2.2 engine, automatic transmission).
The entire load (including the weight of the trailer) will be within the 2000 pound Saab towing capacity. It's going to be a 5x8 trailer loaded with a couple of beds, couches, and chairs. I know the Saab is in top notch shape, and the Subaru is a recent addition (it only has 86K on it but I haven't driven it extensively.
At this point my main issue is cosmetic. Can the factory style hitch (available on Fleabay or amazon) be installed without cutting the bumper? Anybody got a picture of what a hitch looks like installed on the Vert?
Anybody wanna talk me out of using the Saab?
PS I already have a low temp (82 degree) thermostat and radiator switch, and have the SASAB load springs on the car.
