Convertibles - 88 SiS vs. 91 SE vs. 94 CE Posted by Boss77 [Email] (#1802) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Boss77) on Wed, 26 Aug 2015 09:33:09 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have never driven a Saab, but my wife has always wanted one, so I have begun my learning on classic 900 Turbo manual convertibles.
I am trying to figure out why values for the 1988 SiS appear to be so much higher than the 1991 900 SE Turbo and 1994 900 CE Turbo. It seems to me the 1994 CE should be the best driving car - am I missing something?
The 94 CE has the "red box" and burl interior (but minus the optional SPG body panels), while the 91 SE has the SPG body work standard (and it comes not in black). The SiS, while rare, is basically a 900 convertible with some SPG bodywork (but not the suspension or red box APC).
Here's my cheat sheet:
1988 900 Turbo SiS
- Only 288 made; 4 automatics, 284 5-speed manuals (verify by original window sticker with VIN# and glovebox)
- Black exterior / buffalo grey interiors and black tops only
- 2.0-liter turbocharged (Garrett, watercooled) engine at 160 hp
- Aero/SPG-like bodywork, emblem delete, no miniature turbo emblem on the grill
- 3-spoke alloy wheels
- No SPG suspension
1991 SE
- Only 662 made, 10% 5-speed manuals
- Platana Grey (362) or Monte Carlo Yellow (300) exteriors / black interiors and tops
- 2.1-liter turbocharged (Mitsubishi, watercooled) engine at 160 hp
- Aero/SPG-like bodywork, emblem delete (sometimes)
- 3-spoke wheels
- climate-adjustable exhaust cleaning system
1994 CE
- Only 500 made, all 5-speed manuals
- Nova Black Metallic exterior / tan interior with charcoal grey piping and tan tops only
- 2.0-liter at (Mitsubishi, watercooled) at 185 hp via “red box” APC, a 2.8bar fuel pressure regulator, and a special distributor with enhanced vacuum advance
- burl walnut fascia
- charcoal grey 15” directional alloy wheels
- SPG suspension?
- SPG body panels optional
- climate-adjustable exhaust cleaning system
Appreciate thoughts from the experts.
Thanks!
