Yesterday I pulled the oil pump. As expected it was a pain with the tight space. Thanks for the tip on loosing the steering rack. I will remember that in the future. Upon inspection I found 'no smoking gun' as to the oil leak problem. All of the bolts were tight and the mating surfaces seemed clean and undamaged. The internal o-ring was in place and was raised slightly above the surface of the mating surface of the pump. I would like an even thicker o-ring however it appears to be adequate. The harmonic balancer looked good in fact when I measured it with a digital caliper it had a slightly larger diameter then the old one. The shaft seal was pressed in straight however the fit on the harmonic balancer seems looser then the old original Saab seal. This is the only thing which i found to be suspect. I am thinking of biting the bullet and purchasing the Saab OE $30 shaft seal.
Did you use the pernmatex aviation sealant on the entire O-ring as a sealant or just spots to hold it in place. Also did you use the sealant on the entire mating surface or just the joints where the bolts are?
