Bummer. Two of the bolt holes are over-bored (counter-bored, countersunk) in both the head and block and are supposed to have short tubular steel sleeves installed. (The frontmost bolt on the exhaust side and the second from the rearmost bolt on the intake side. "Front" being where the chain is.) Those sleeves will force the head and head gasket to align perfectly on the block. If the sleeves are missing the head can sit slightly out of position, possibly enough to shift those 8 mm bolt holes out of alignment. If you collected a head from one engine to install on another engine the sleeves may have traveled away with the unused head or block (on disassembly they can end up stuck in either the head or block). Or if the head went to a machine shop they may have forgot to re-install them after machining. If you stripped one you'll need to remove the head, helicoil that bolt hole and then replace it, ideally with a new head gasket BUT first make sure that those sleeves are installed in the block (or in the head, but not both). Like SwedeFreak said, It's generally a good idea to start all bolts before tightening any.
