When you take the drier and expansion valve out I would look carefully for any signs of contamination/debris. If there are any the system will need to be flushed out, otherwise the new valve could clog up.
Also don't forget to add a little oil to make up for what is lost when the drier is replaced. There's a rule of thumb for how much to add for each replaced component, outlined here: http://www.underhoodservice.com/ac-oil-service-avoid-compressor-failure/
If there's not enough oil in the system you risk damaging the compressor. Too much is not good either as it reduces cooling.
So basically you'll need to add an ounce of oil into the new drier just before installation. You'll also want to button it up as quickly as possible before pulling vacuum to prevent the desiccant absorbing a lot of atmospheric moisture. (This all assumes you started out with the proper amount of oil.)
