When my first 9000 was "totaled" in a minor collision, State Farm (my insurance provider) calculated a payout and deducted $239 (I kid you not!) as the scrap value of the "junked" car, which they allowed me to keep because I asked them to do so. No change in title since I kept the car, which I rebuilt myself with used parts. If you are covered by State Farm, talk to your agent and get them involved - this is part of the "customer service" that you are paying them for in your premiums. Not sure if they would let me insure it again for collision insurance, but I didn't care to at that point.
As in your case, the other party was 100% responsible for the collision and was cited by the police. Note that the other driver's insurer was Farmer's, who dragged their feet for weeks and offered me a payout of about half of what I thought was reasonable and got immediately from State Farm - I refused their offer and let State Farm pay me less my deductible, then they "subrogated" Farmer's and months later I got a check for the deductible. Farmer's offer also refused to pay sales tax and registration fees, which are required under Illinois insurance law.
Do not let such a beautiful C900 get junked!
