turbo seals? Posted by coepercussion [Email] (#2117) [Profile/Gallery] (more from coepercussion) on Mon, 7 May 2018 11:03:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Is it at all possible for a bad turbo oil seal to cause crankcase pressurization under boost? I get some oil out of the dipstick tube on my 85 SPG under hard boost. I did a compression check and the numbers were fine on all cylinders, and have no symptoms I can tell of a bad head gasket but I suppose it could be. However, my turbo does have a good amount of side-to-side play and is slightly difficult to spin by hand. There is no sign of smoking though from a bad turbo oil seal which is odd. There is a lot of oil on the block near the turbo oil return tube and I suspect a bad o-ring there, or possibly oil from a head gasket leak although compression check was ok....just trying to figure out causes. Otherwise the car runs good, I get about 9 psi at max boost which is low, I think 85's should be more around 11psi at max. Car has over 300,000 miles so I guess I'm asking a lot. It is NOT the PCV line as the PCV valve is new, connected correctly with flow towards the intake manifold, and the nipple on the valve cover is clear. I've checked all of that very well, so the problem lies outside of the PCV system as far as I can tell. Thanks!
