So, just to be sure, when you say flow towards the intake manifold, do you mean that you can pull air through the check valve, but if you blow on it from the boost side, it is checked?
If you pull off the hose from the manifold and blow on it, it should check the pressure, but when the manifold is negative pressure it draws through the check valve. I'm not convinced from the way you described it that the boost pressure is checked.
We had oil pushing up the dipstick tube on a 14 psi charge pressure under WOT for the one mile runs we have on the track. I had a vacuum pump put on the valve cover, the oil out of the dipstick stopped, but it was collecting 250ml per 1 mile WOT run.
Then, we went to Bonneville ( this is a new engine ringed / 140k pistons ) and prepared to do a constant oil change by pulling the half liter out per 2 mile run on the rookie course. After several runs, and 1800 degree EGT, the rings finally seated, and the oil into the catch can all the sudden stopped delivering copious amounts of oil.
Take a boost pressure gauge and put it on the nipple on top of the valve cover, and watch the differential between the boost pressure and the pressure in the top of the motor -- we have gauges for both to see the comparison.
But, this would be AFTER you fix the turbo and make sure the check valve is truly oriented in the correct direction. I've made errors like that before, nobody is immune from being off on that...... :-) Good luck!
