Sender threads changed in 1986 from SAE to metric Posted by walt [Email] (#2707) [Profile/Gallery] (more from walt) on Fri, 24 Aug 2018 07:33:11 In Reply to: Re: Oil filter leak at sender?, Fogline [Profile/Gallery] , Wed, 22 Aug 2018 18:29:23 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Earlier sender had a 1/4x18tpi SAE tapered pipe thread which is smaller than later 14x1.5mm straight metric thread. The earlier style threaded sender is no longer available. Later style sender is pn-9112459. Earlier one is 9309386.
One option for old style housing would be to remove housing and substitute a later style housing with new gasket. I ran across one housing that had a helicoil thread insert installed, which may have been from factory, or perhaps someone drilled, tapped, and helicoiled an earlier style pipe thread housing.
