Justin,
Thank you for your reply!
Most turbocharger oil seal bypassing conditions begin at the turbine seal as employs the largest gap. Symptoms of a worn turbine oil seal would typically show blue smoke at the exhaust tailpipe, or excessive oil consumption. Your symptoms actually may be closer to an excessive crankcase ventilation condition as the symptoms could provide the smell of oil or combustion, within the cabin and at lower driving speeds.
Crankcase ventilation problems will also almost always result in eventual turbocharger oil seal bypassing conditions since oil return from the turbocharger will be inhibited at the crankcase. The engine will ventilate via valve cover exit, and the vacuum line with one way check valve should also recirculate any combustion which may be within the crankcase. Make certain that the vacuum line from the intake manifold to valve cover connection is intact and not under restrictions. The one way valve should also be eliminating intake manifold pressures from entering the crankcase via the vacuum line to valve cover line.
Although most shops will have a gauge/tool to check for positive crankcase pressures, a simple method of accomplishing a road test would be as follows: Pull the 900 over immediately after you sense odor in the cabin, while keeping the engine at idle. Pull the engine oil dipstick from the tube while looking for combustion exiting the open tube. Typically, if the B202 engine's pcv vacuum line connection is properly doing it's task, there should be little to no emission exiting from the open oil pipe. Also, check the odor of any emissions, and compare to the odor which was experienced earlier in your cabin.
Thanks again for your contact and we will look forward to hearing from you relative to any updates! We are also open Saturdays until 6PM EST.
Sincerely,
Gary K. at SWEDISH DYNAMICS, INC.
