Had one as my daily until 2011 Posted by JerseySaab [Email] (#666) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JerseySaab) on Fri, 24 May 2019 08:22:58 In Reply to: A 900 as a daily driver in 2019?, Brian H., Fri, 24 May 2019 06:06:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'd driven 900s as my daily driver from 1985 through 2011. When arthritis made driving a stick shift in traffic painful I switched to a 9000 with automatic trans.
The main issues I see with using a 900 as daily driver at this point are mainly:
In the Northeast it would be a shame to expose a nice 900 to the rigors and hazards of daily use, especially in winter. I still have a 1986 900S and now regret having used it up that way because although it still runs well it is now a rustbucket due to winter salt. (It was very clean when I bought it.) At some point the car is probably going to wind up being offered up as a parts vehicle due to rust. (My daily driver 9000 was rusty when I bought it, so less of a concern there with winter use.)
Parts availability - as time passes, some parts are becoming more difficult to find. You'll need an alternate vehicle for those times when you need to wait for parts.
