1989 SAAB 900 2.0 Liter 16V 5-speed 3-door hatch.
VIN: YS3AR35DXK3014943 179K miles:

I am the original owner of a US spec 1989 Saab 900 base model. The fuel gauge started acting up probably in 2002. It was recommended to replace the sending unit. Problem persistent but intermittent.

symptom:
Fuel gauge intermittent bounce plus reading lower than consumption. Coolant gauge reads lower and small bounce. Fuel sending unit replaced multiple times with some relief.

Resolution:

We (Strictly Saab, Melbourne, FL) disconnected the battery and accessed the 7 mm grounds behind the fuel & coolant gauges via the drivers side front speaker. One was loose! Snugged the nut with a box end and my fuel gauge & coolant gauge are extremely accurate.
