I have an 1984 900T as my daily driver and am always messing with the front brakes. FWIW here are the options to stick with original brakes
1. Rebuild yours. It's not too hard (will help to have compressed air). The Bentley does not have details, you need the Factory service manual. And I consider the Factory manual a big help. However your success is limited by the condition of the core you are rebuilding and witchcraft. I say witchcraft because I have about a 50/50 success rate in rebuilding them successfully. The most common problem I have after rebuilding is leaking brake fluid. My guess is that if there is too much wear in the internals they start to leak fairly soon.
2. Buy rebuilds. There are some on ebay today but they are getting hard to find. Rebuild are a crap shoot. Sometimes they leak out of the box, sometimes they last for years without a problem. The rebuild are limited by how good of a core the rebuilder started with and they're own quality control.
3. Find good used ones. This is getting even harder. But you do occasionally find them. The best ones come from a fellow Saaber who is parting out what was their driver.
My daily driver has been sitting for a month because it needs a caliper. I am going to rebuild something from my pile of calipers and hope for the best. As you know, the biggest hassle with swapping calipers from a bad one to a questionable one is that you don't know if the questionable one is any good until you install it and bleed it. And after a while you get tired of the bleeding.
