I'm going to guess the case isn't bent, that would probably crack or break rather than bend.
I have been taking all of my differential covers and putting them on a huge belt sander to flatten them, they show an undulating pattern at first, and then after a minimum amount of material is removed, they are flat.
Is this a stamped steel cover, an early ( pre 1989) or 1989 and up type of cover? I've seen bolts in the filter area of the late model covers that pushed through or cracked the outer part of the lower cover and they dripped oil.
Try some of the dye that you use in the engine to find leaks. Just start and run, don't drive so you can tell if it's the other things mentioned in previous posts.
