Here is my understanding of classic 900 ABS system.
The Brake master cylinder contains these basic parts: Supply reservior, piston/cylinder, Accumulator, pressure sensor and ABS pump. During normal operation (including key on but not running) the pressure sensor tells the ABS pump to run as necessary to keep the required pressure in the accumulator. When the accumulator fails, the sensor tells the ABS pump to run all the time. This ruins the ABS pump. Requiring replacement of accumulator and pump. The ABS pump is attached to lower part of Brake master cylinder, not to be confused with the anti-lock ABS pump part of the distribution equalizer located about ten inches in front of the master cylinder.
