Thanks for the response!

A bit more information: I'm building a chillcast box with the pre-1989 5-speed pinion shaft. I plan on using a primary-case from a pre-1989 "turbo" 5-speed box, with the extra bearing on the lower input shaft (even though I know it's probably not necessary, I have it so why not).

I machined a steel pinion housing to take a big bearing with this pre-'89 shaft, much like the old Swedish Dynamics ones. But steel. Here's a picture from before I machined the oil passage. I don't plan on making huge power, but I wanted a bulletproof gearbox and figured it might be fun to learn to use the big lathe for precision turning.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but can I use a '89> cluster gear and internals with this setup? Would that be a good way to go? I was under the impression that it was impossible, but maybe I am wrong.

And then, if I did that, are you saying that the 4-speed reverse gears may be compatible with the '89> cluster gear? How subtle is the incompatibility? If I put it together and try it out by hand, will I know? Or will an incompatibility between reverse teeth only be noticeable once I have it installed? Because that would be horrible.

Thanks for any advice or guidance you may have!
