Got a horrible rod knock in my '90 SPG last Sept. I had a spare rebuilt '91 motor/trans. combo ready to plug in so I figured I'd do the swap when I got the chance. I'm an autobody tech of 45 years, so I know my way around cars. I'm certainly competent enough at removing and installing to accomplish replacement of parts. Photos taken, wires labeled with tape, etc. Suffice to say, I'm absolutely certain to dot all my "I's" and cross all my, "Ts". I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that all plugs were returned to their proper connectors. Grounds at the lower r/s rad support, and upper engine pull hook and alternator are all secure. With all that being said....it won't start. When pulling a plug and shorting case to ground and cranking, spark looks very weak. You can almost not see it in daylight. Did an hour's worth of flipping through the archives here as I always have done over the last 25 years of SAAB ownership glitches. The common responses to weak spark were: Hall sensor defective/cracked/broken on dizzy, non-bougicord wires, Ignition amplifier failure, grounds. Well, I replaced the dizzy with a good one I have. No difference. I replaced the Bosch wires I had on there with factory bougicord wires. No difference. I replaced the ignition amplifier. No difference. I rechecked my grounds at all three locations. All are tight and clean. Where else can I look? As much as I may be competent at replacing an entire engine/trans combo and all that goes with that, I'm HORRIBLE at diagnosing electronic issues....thus the reason I replaced all the things I mention above. Beyond checking for continuity, I'm lost with a multimeter. Embarrassing, but true. Can anybody think of anything I'm overlooking? Happy to try anything at this point. I'm sure if I can get proper spark, I'll be running. I know I have fuel pressure at the rail, and timing set close enough to start it. Hoping someone can shed some light! Thanks, Bob
