Update, 2nd weekend.
I put a "new" steering rack in, and changed out my steering shaft as well. There was a difference between the 88 and the 92 I took the shaft out of. The later cars seem to have 2 removable ujoints where as the earlier ones just have a single. Anyway, that all got buttoned up just fine.
Engine was ready - and went in, no trouble. I did notice this transmission has the NA style front mount, never noticed that before. It's not original to the other car.
Also noticed the later head has an extra coolant pipe. Jeff Henderson told me it's for the turbo, and to just block off either that one - or the one off the intake manifold. I blocked the one on the side of the head off, since I already had the other line setup.
Otherwise - lots of wires and hoses and all went in. Finished up the passenger side wiring harness, fuel lines, oil cooler lines and coolant lines and so forth. Air box is in and my oil pressure sender is in, starter hooked up etc.
Put the turbo elbow back on, and the distributor back in, and so overall it's pretty close.
Next weekend it's just - put the radiator in, hook up the lower exhaust, and put the cap coil and plugs and it should be good to crank over.
Oh, whoops, and I still need to put the axles back in. I decided to remove both of them and install them last, because I hate trying to wiggle the engine in and the axles and all at the same time. Since I already have the front end up on blocks and my A-Arm holders in place, we can go do that last no problem.
And then lastly - I need to do a shifter alignment.
Otherwise pretty close
