Okay, second to last update.
I started the car saturday. To install the driver side axle I needed to use a spring compressor because my nice suspension tool doesn't work anymore on that side, well lets say that the A Arm is lacking in that area.
- rebuilt that axle with a new inner and boots all around, installed.
- put a new speedo in.
- got the steering tie ends attached and ready to alignment
- I called my dad over to help and he cranked the engine and.
After starting:
- No crank, only click. forgot to plug in the solenoid.
- It cranked, no start, but started blowing oil out the tensioner. Whoops, forgot to tighten that.
- Gas started spraying everywhere. I forgot this car still had plastic lines. I replaced them from the top of the rail back down to the lower A Arm with some rubber fuel line I have used in the past succesfully.
- No more gas leak! Good, because my alternator was sparking like crazy. Forgot to tighten the + side down.
- Oh no we don't have vacuum... fixed that missing line.
- Okay, now it's actually cranking! messed with the timing and got it to start
- okay it's started, let me top up the PS rack and let it do it's thing.
- oop, coolant is dribbling by the intake manifold, ah, the coolant sensor was lose.
After all that I idled it for about 10 minutes. Let any of the pblaster burn off the exhasut. Good oil pressure, voltage, and it quieted down once the hydraulic lifters got up and did their thing.
- let's get it into gear, go into reverse... weird it's not going! Probably because i just eyeballed the alignment. Also... wow that clutch is really weird.
So... all in all a good hour or two I had on Saturday.
To wrap this up I need to double check the clutch is bled, the brake fluid tank is topped up (I knocked off the clutch line by accident on install so... yeah), and align the shifter.
Shifter alignment on 88: install the 5/6mm pin in the shift shaft in the console per townsend, stick the car in 3rd gear (all the way towards the rear of the car), tighten, check.
pretty excited to get this thing running
