Is it part number 224-220 that you are referring to? It has an ohm range from 0 to 90 ohms. Given that our senders go from 5ish to 67ish ohms, then, that VDO sender would read empty at about 1/3 of a tank, and full would be about correct. And no, there would be no more low fuel warning light.
In addition, that VDO sender has a 5 hole SAE standard mounting pattern. That means there will be holes in it. You will have to figure out a way to mount it up to the tank, preferably in place of the original sender, using the 5 bolt SAE standard fuel pattern. This may be easier said than done, especially if you don't want leaks.
