Yes, it is all done in car. No you don't have to drain the gearbox oil. And I think it is going to the light side in this case. You get much more reverse gear engagement so it doesn't grind up the gear. If you are just hard to get in gear you may want to look into the alignment of the shifter as well as the little bushing in the end of the shifter housing. Also the motor mounts can add to the alignment woes. Make sure you put a dab of thread locker on the screw when you install it. I have seen them come loose. Good Luck, Bernie
