Eric, The three ring drivers are early, up to 1985-1986 depending on model. The two ring drivers are from 1986 on. New tripod assemblies are still available for the later ones but not for the early ones and front end vibration can be caused by either a worn inner driver or a worn out tripod assembly. The wear on the tripod assembly is not as easy to detect since it occurs on the spindles behind the needles so disassembly is required to actually see the damage. Fitting a good used or reconditioned inner driver with an old questionable tripod assembly is bad practice. You can upgrade an early car to use the later inner drivers and tripod assemblies but you must also install later axle shafts. Not the outer CV joints, just the steel shafts since the later tripod assemblies have a bigger splined hole in the middle. Many C900's have been upgraded over the years so the year of the car alone is not a 100% reliable way to know which inner drivers it has.
