Re: AC belt not lining up Posted by StoicBlue87 [Email] In Reply to: Re: AC belt not lining up, Goblin |
I installed a Four Seasons SD7H15 on my 92 900 last September. I think at the base-manufacturer level this is a Sanden 4434.
And it features a pulley with 2 V-belt grooves instead of the stock single V-belt groove on the original Seiko-Seiki compressor. And those two V-belt channels do not clearly line up with the crank-pulley AC V-belt groove. I mucked about with this a few years ago and gave up out of frustration. I was trying to find or fashion a single-groove pulley without success.
I was considering grinding down the mount ears to bring that "front" channel more towards alignment with the crank-pulley but never got around to it. And out of the blue, I tried installing this compressor on another '92 900 that I had bought in the past couple of years.
This time the front channel lined up much more closely with the crank pulley. Not perfectly but adequately. When everything is installed, there is some small deflection visible in the AC belt but not enough to cause problems.
I'm going to call the 2 different pulley channels as "front" and "back" in relation to the compressor when mounted in the car. So the "back" channel is actually the outer channel on the pulley. And the "front" channel is the groove closest to the mounting ears.
The deflection in your first pic looks acceptable. I recommend driving it and monitoring for problems if they arise.
I wish we could get these compressors with the single-belt pulley but these things seem common in trucks of some sort where 2 belts are standard...I've been scanning and inquiring about different pulley options but have never found a single-belt pulley.
