Gearbox failure Posted by trich [Email] |
I have a 1990 Saab 900 Turbo convertible that had the gearbox fail (terrible sound, front wheels locked, stick moves freely and clutch operates normally). Looking in the gearbox fill plug the oil is black and nothing moves inside when the car is rocked.
I also have a 1992 900 Turbo that I can use as a donor for the gearbox. I’m wondering if there are any issues with swapping just the gearbox. The donor car has lots of body rust and picked for parts but the engine and manual transmission work well and is driveable.
1990 Saab 900 Turbo conv. Engine family. LSA2.0V5FTE8. 114k miles
1992 Saab 900 Turbo donor NSA2.3V5FTB3. Code: 202L9BB. 144k miles
Both are 2.0 liters 121 cl
I believe the 1990 has CA emissions
Does it work to donate just the gearbox or is it easier to donate the engine and gearbox? If engine is donated I assume the ECU would need to go with it.
Thanks- Tim
