Obviously??? I too have to jump in on this one...
My two cars are at complete opposite ends of the spectrum: a 9-5 Aero with ~7000 miles and a 85 900S with ~312000 miles. I bought the 85 for a winter driver and so I could play around with it (learning a thing or two - something I've always wanted to do). Just because I could probably afford to pay my mechanic to replace the clutch and ball joints on my 85 doesn't mean I did nor does wanting to save some money (a lot of money in ethan's case) necessarily mean anything.
If I had the time, had a 2nd car in case the job took longer than expected and felt comfortable trying the repair, I'd go for it.
And, by the way, my 900 has it's original 5-speed and it's still working well.
Bryce
