legal advice if possible please (long)

hi all. this is non-saab related. my father recently bought a used 1999 BMW 328i from a dealer. he also purchased an $1800 extended warranty. today, while simply driving to work his serpentine belt broke, slashing the coolant hose and basically destroying the entire engine in a matter of 30 seconds. all as he was manuevering to exit the off ramp.
thinking his warranty would cover this, he was shocked to find out the warranty company says the the warranty clearly states that the breaking of a serpentine belt is not included and thus he would have to incur the repair cost of, get this, $8375.00.
now my question is, what about the possibility of a "covered" part causing the serpentine belt to break? i'm no mechanic, but i know serpentine belts don't just "break". my father is a very conservative driver and cares for his cars very well. this is, to me, clearly a situation of a sheisty business trying to protect their out of pocket coverage on such a large repair at the expense of the customer having faith in their product (warranty).
how do we, if possible, go about proving this possibility and approach it? any valid insight is greatly appreciated. any business lawyers in the house? thanks for you time. happy sabbin'.
