Synthetic Oil for 98 CSE 9K - Safely Done???

Just acquired 98 CSE is due for an oil change. Talked with previous owner and garage - both indicated that car was well cared for - and seems to be after driving for a couple of months. Found a few minor things to fix like a leaky windshield, tire with nail, minor cosmetic, etc.
Drive about 25,000 miles per year. Would like to use synthetic if for no other reason than to be certain oil is changed timely.
Have learned, however, the hard way with a 96CS LPT (110K) that switching to synthetic oil even 50/50 variety can cause problems in an older engine -see related postings.
Can it be safely done with an engine with 50K that has been well cared for i.e. frequent oil changes & no history of problems? Thinking that synthetic oil may avoid problems of deposit build-up in engine and save trouble down the road - as I've encountered with 96CS.
