For whatever the reason, if a SAAB engine requires this much work at 105K mi, I would have strong reservations about putting anywhere near this much money into it. (And although I have had no dealings with the dealer you mentioned, just looking through several of the on-line parts prices, I still think that ca. $1200 US for these parts is very high.) The fact that you mentioned the transmission had to be repaired/replaced and now the engine apparently has major mechanical problems raises all kinds of red flags as to the integrity of the rest of the drivetrain - particularly the engine internals and the turbo.
Again, I'm only offering an opinion, but if it were me, I would still shop for another engine. I agree 100% with Aaron that this is not typical of SAAB engines that have experienced even had a modest amount of care. (I have a '90 9KT with 150K mi that is also going strong, and to the best of my knowledge has never been opened up.) I certainly would not have stayed with SAAB all these years if your experience was typical of these cars' reliability. A second opinion is certainly in order.
