Can I remove that little sensor cover?

The little plastic sensor cover...I hear a little rattling sound in there, and I'm assuming something's in there that shouldn't be. This just started recently.
I'd like to know if it's okay for me to try to "pop" the little plastic cover off, by propping a screwdriver, knife, or some such thing behind it, allowing me to see if something is in there which can be removed.
Also, I discussed this on another thread, but I've noticed now that my compressor clutch kicks on and off, on and off, on and off constantly (between every 7-14 seconds) when I have my AC set on AUTO. It doesn't do this when I'm using ECON, but I also get very humid air and poor cooling while using ECON. I'd like to use the AUTO feature, but I'm very concerned about this constant kicking off and on. I only began noticing this during the past week or so. I did make sure my panel controls are not pointed toward the sensor.
Thanks for any and all thoughts, as always.
Julia
